Coleman was born at Blackpool Lancashire. Coleman attended Arnold School Blackpool as head girl. She scored all As for her A level examinations. It was the British Soap Awards 2009 nominated her in both category of Best Actress - Sexiest Feminine as well as the Best Dramatic Performance category. Coleman was awarded the TV Choice Awards nomination for Best Actress. Steven Moffat revealed at a Doctor Who Press Conference on the 21st of March that Coleman was to play Matt Smith as the Doctor's Companion following the departure of Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and other characters have left the show. Moffat has decided to cast her in the role because she has the most chemistry Smith. She also spoke more quickly than he does.
