Coleman was born in Blackpool Lancashire. She attended Arnold School in Blackpool. As headgirl, she earned straight A marks in her A Levels. In response to questions about her role in Emmerdale, she said she regretted having not had an experience like the traditional one at university. Coleman worked with a group named In Yer Space at her school. The company presented Crystal Clear in Edinburgh Festival. An award was presented to her for her performance, while the play received an enthusiastic reception. Coleman was offered the role in the role of Jasmine Thomas at Emmerdale while trying out for drama classes in 2005. Coleman got two nominations in the year 2007. The third man she has married is the father of her daughter.
